Anyone know which brand/model this bike is? from the early 90s, unique splash paintwork, good spec for its day

Re:

These tend to be known a Gas Pipe Bike Shaped Objects (BSO) due to their use of extremely thick and heavy steel tubes. They were made for all manner of UK companies like Apollo, Radford, Claude Butler, Magna and so on. Even Raleigh made a number of Gas Pipe BSOs under the Max range. They were not high end and tended to sell for £99-£149 new. Parts tended to be Altus mixed with plastic brakes and levers, chrome seatpost, 21.1mm stems and Gripshift 400 which is all very low end. Looks like this one has has a new rear derailleur though.

Nothing nasty about them, they were a great entry into mountain bikes but they weren't great bikes.

Re:

When we sold them we received them blank with a pack of stickers to apply, sometimes with multiple packs of stickers with different makes. Same bike, different day!

Re:

21 Speed
Gripshift SRT300
Gripshift TM labeled grips
Cantilever C-star brakes
Shimano altus front n rear (original derailleur)
Shimano hyper drive c crank
Shimano ct-90 bb
Shimano ct-90 hub
Tiogo Psycho 2 tyres
Bull bars are branded K..cant read rest
Reflectors circular shape (missing)

The bikes light to pick up (magnet sticks) steel? it's lighter weight compared to a friends GT mtb from that era

Not really even a 'nice' introduction to MTB. The frame geometry was weird, cheap parts and nasty metal frame with a paint job to make it look like the Claud Butler or Diamond Back above which in turn was considered an entry level bike.
