Specialized hardrock build advice

I love those late 80's Hardrocks. They always bring back memories of riding around my hometown on a warm summer evening, probably on the way to some crazy party, or to catch a band playing somewhere. Good times.

Thanks for that, seems the bike is mostly original spec. Think I have a bit of wriggle room for parts. The bike only cost me £5.

£5!!! I now feel like I've been fleeced, paying a whopping £25 for mine (another just down the road purchase). Overall spend is going to approach £200 though - not remotely original and a bare metal re-spray.

 Is it a keeper? I'm looking at new BB, wheels and cables. Trying to keep spend to a minimum.

Re:

'Is it a keeper?' Perhaps. When I first got it, I tested it out, but with a rotten bottom bracket, dodgy brakes, etc. and it seemed like it had potential. On the one hand, I was wary of getting something too low end that feels like a leaden lump; on the other hand, I noticed that of all the lower end bikes the Hardrock seems to get the most love and respect on Retrobike.

The overall cost of paint spray will come to about £50 and I had to pay £10 in the end to get the bottom bracket out. Almost everything else will transfer to another frame if I'm not happy with it - Avid SD7s, new tyres, etc.
