Spec list for a 1989 Marin Palisades?

Hello all. My mate Beavis is looking to fully restore his 1989 Marin Palisades but can't find any info on the original groupset and other equipment.

Anyone remember what kit they had on from new? We're thinking Mountain LX / Exage Trail mixture but not sure. :?

It is the Fluro yellow frame?

If so my mum has one can check spec.

His is the same colour as the 1990 (grey frame, fluro yellow forks etc) but with normal paint, not Zolatone. Might have come in other colours that year though :?

I picked up one of these last year, in bits, and it had MountainLX cranks and mechs. Didn't have any wheels tho, so unsure what spec there, but you'd probably not go too wrong with Araya CV7's.. in silver.

I might still have the neon yellow stem and bars, if you're (he's) interested? and I know for a fact that I have the STI/brake lever combo's

Cheers Steve, sounds about right. We think it was probably close to my '89 Tufftrax spec wise. not sure about STI's though, didn't think they were about in 1989 :?

It definitely had STI's on it, but that might have been a (weird) 1990's upgrade that was carried out, but it seems a strange thing to have done, back then.

Oh yeah, and it had biopace rings, too, as mentioned^^

I think it had black Exage trail wide profile cantis. I have a bike's worth with pads that you are welcome to for £5. I'll chuck in a fluoro yellow handlebar from a 1990 one too if you want.

As also said, Biopace, push-push Shimano Rapidfire shifters with SLR brake levers.

Good effort chaps, looking to begin the resto early next year. Will try and keep close to original spec, so far have deduced the following;

First Palisades arrived in '86/'87 and was red & 6spd.

Seen loads of blue Palisades on eBay all reckoning to be 1988 - with full Mountain LX 7spd group. I also found an original spec sheet to back this up.

Never seen any 1989's apart from mine. Flat grey paint so defo not a 1990 because I had one of those from new and that had the Zolatone. Would doubt they would go back to 6spd for 1989 after the move to 7spd so guessing still Mountain LX rear mech (again, not 300LX as that was the '90) and as such, Mountain LX thumb/Brake Levers. I remember the man in the bike shop telling me that Shimano's STI's were new on the '90 Marins. Rest of it could well be Exage (Mountain/Trail) going by the 1989 Shimano Brochure on here as I think by then the lower end Marins were mixed groupsets perhaps to keep costs down(?)

A 1989 MBUK would be sweet if anyone has one?? You never know there may be a pic or two...

Hi there! I know this thread is old but I just found this Marin Palisades. Trying to find the year. If you're right them this would be an 89 as well. Found this in pretty much new condition! Oh this bike is from the US.
