Sonic cycles restoration.

.

I've got most of the parts together for the build now.
It will be mostly 600 Ultegra Tricolour but with 9 speed Ultegra STI's and a few modern bits :D
I'm not 100% about the Stronglight chainset. I really like it and i think the bike is going to need some black around the BB area but i have a pair of 600 arms aswell so I think it will come down to what looks/works best when i start building her up.
I rebuilt the Speedplay pedals today. one of the most simple bearing changes i have ever, down a really easy job :D

Parts wise its loking like;
600 Ultegra 1" headset
Black Syncros stem 22.2mm
ITM Millenium Ultralight carbon bars 44cm
600 Ultegra braze on front mech and rear mech
600 Ultegra single calipers(i'd like dual pivot but i haven't bagged any yet :D )
Carbon seatpost of unknown origin
Brown suede Selle Italia saddle
Stronglight Speedlight crank arms with 38-48 TA spesh rings
UN73 108mm BB
Speedplay pedals
Mavic CXP black rims on 105 5501 hubs with black spokes
Michelin Pro3 race tyres, white walls
Ultegra 6500 sti's, recently repaired and serviced by the great LGF :D
Ultegra 6500 9sp casette,sram 990 chain.

Thats about it i think :D

Re: Sonic cycles resto - Parts are coming together.

Final coat of topcoat is going on this afternoon :D
Would have been last week but somebody misplaced the tubing decals
I'm going to pick her up on friday
Still on the lookout for a pair of black/grey nice brake calipers?? ;)

Re: Sonic cycles resto. Frame returning on friday 8th feb!!

Picked the frame up a day early :D
Pretty much built up now, maybe needs a shorter BB but nearly there.
Pics up tomorrow in the sunshine

Re: Sonic cycles resto. Frame returning on friday 8th feb!!

Fingers crossed for sunshine.

I have been waiting for a nice dry day to give the Concorde a decent shakedown, I even blagged off work early today (as it's my birthday), in the hope of grabbing an hour, but by the time I'd done the horses.... it was raining

Re: Sonic cycles resto. Frame returning on friday 8th feb!!

Someone else who has to muck out and put horses to bed :) ours is a 14.3 Cob called "Billy" :D

Re: Sonic cycles resto. Frame returning on friday 8th feb!!

We have two, both around 14.2; Folly and Harry, they live out, which means hay nets, poo picking etc.

Last night, it was my turn as my wife was stuck in a Dept. meeting. Nice and dry all day, and by the time I got home..... rain

Re: Sonic cycles resto. Frame returning on friday 8th feb!!

No sunshine but here goes :D
I opted for Dura ace 8 speed DT shifters and cassette in the end.
I'm hoping to fit the matching brake levers but i'm having some issues with them

Re: Sonic cycles resto. Build pics up page 6

That looks very nice indeed, although I suspect it's even more orange in the flesh.

Very

Re: Sonic cycles resto. Build pics up page 6

Finally got to the bottom of the Dura ace brake lever saga. I had to use some older ferrules on the cable outer where it locates in the back of the lever as a modern 6mm one just pulled through :? all sorted now though.

The final build is as follows;

Frame - Sonic Colombus Nivacrom Custom
Forks - Reynolds 753
Headset - Shimano Ultegra 600 1" cartidge
Stem - Syncros 1" 115mm c/c
Bars - ITM Millenium carbon 44cm
Brake levers - Shimano Dura ace 7401
Brake calipers - Shimano Ultegra 600 Tricolour 6400
Shifters - Dura ace 8 speed(7403?).
Front mech - Shimano Ultegra 600 Tricolour 6400
Rear mech - Shimano Ultegra 600 Tricolour 6400
Bottom Bracket - Shimano UN71 107mm
Cranks - Stronglight Speedlight
Chainrings - TA Specialities 38-48
Pedals - Speedplay
Cassette - 8 speed Dura ace(7403?)
Wheels - Mavic CPX 22 on Shimano 105 5501 9 speed hubs
Tyres - Michelin Racelight 3
Seatpost - Carbon fibre, maker unknown.
Saddle - Brown suede, possibly Turbo certainly looks like one :D

She is a bit of a mishmash but i think she looks lovely and on the plus side she rides really nicely too

20 mile shake down test today. All good apart from the saddle was a smidge high with my padded tights over my padded shorts :D

Speedplay pedals are a dream  and 16 gears is more than enough ;)
