SOLD: 1960s Sun Snipe Prestige

Retrobike Rider
Unearthed while clearing out my in-law's garage where it has been stored unused for several decades. I haven't done anything to it so the condition is exactly as you can see in the photos. The gears and brakes do work up to a point, but it will need a thorough clean and service to be properly usable.

Owned from new when it was bought in the mid 1960s, and just about everything on it will be original apart from the tyres.

Men's bike with:
- 22.5" frame (centre of BB to end of seat tube)
- Euut tubing
- Brooks Champion Narrow saddle, possibly a B15?
- Weinmann Vainqueur 999 caliper brakes with Sun levers
- Milremo stem
- Simplex rear mech
- Blue Mel's Club Special full length mudguards
- 27 x 1 1/4 (28-630) wheels with 32 spoke Dunlop Special Lightweight rims (25.5" rim diameter)
- BB grease nipple
- a very corroded alloy bike stand possibly made by Norman?
- toe clips with straps
- silver coloured metal pump
- rear rack
- front light bracket on fork
- 'new' tyres that are at least 15 years old
- a nice big bell on the handlebars
- frame serial number 2589711

£100 but I'm open to any sensible offers.
Please ask if you'd like to know anything else about it.
I don't want to post or courier this, so it must be picked up near Chelmsford in Essex or I could take it somewhere not too far away.

Re: 1960s Sun Snipe Prestige

That is lovely - what a rare survivor!.

I wish I lived nearer, as it may be a while until I could collect.

If I knew where you all lived I might be able to sort out dropping it off if I'm passing nearby, just as long as you aren't at the other end of the country!
biggs682, there's a chance I could be near Wellingborough in the next few weeks.

Re: 1960s Sun Snipe Prestige

I checked today whether the stem and seatpost were seized, but they're both free.
The stem needed a light tap on the bolt and then it moved quite easily.
The seatpost is fairly stiff but the chrome surface that was exposed was clean and shiny without any obvious sign of corrosion.
