Came here a few months ago to generally learn about bikes etc, after deciding that older bikes were just better - better looking, handling, paintjobs etc. Found the forum more welcoming than other bike forums too. The bug bit hard and I'm browsing the forum on a daily basis now, looking for odd bits to fit, and admiring the top-end builds I just can't afford yet.
It's an affliction - I'm hopefully about to buy my second Kona, a 1996 Cinder Cone this time.

Retrobike for me has gone well beyond just the internet and the forum.

The best part has been meeting so many like minded people in real life on the countless rides and events I've been to since my first Peaks ride in 2009.

Like quite a few people on the forum, I also help out behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly.

I'm on here most days, sometimes posting, sometimes looking and sometimes moderating.

Only been a forum member for a couple of months and I joined as soon as I found this place - unlink some I wasn't a lurking anonymous viewer before creating my account, but I only found this place from the RB Instagram account, and I'd been following that for months! I didn't realise there was a forum! :facepalm:

I've met a few members here at the Iconoclassic show, but that was literally only a week after becoming a member so putting forum-names to real names and faces proved tricky, and matching all that to the bikes on show and those in the owners' threads is still something I'm getting to grips with.

I can honestly say that without this forum and all of you who've made and continue to make it what it is, my ambitious restoration build would be nowhere near as good as it's becoming (still a way to go!) - and this forum is the only online hangout I use nowadays (occasionally flirted on a few car forums, but the interest in anything but 2 wheels is now dead!) and it's well and truly taken over my evenings and certain quiet periods during the daytime at work!

I'll definitely be showing one probably two bikes at Iconoclassic next year and hope to get out on a retro ride before then too

As far as being into bikes, I believe mountain bikes have quick release, 26 inch wheels - I'm not fussed if they have V-brakes, canti's or discs, rigid or suspension forks, black or amber sidewalls, risers or flat handlebars, period or modern components, original or upgraded spec, hang on the wall or hanging by the side of a cliff - they DO have 26 inch wheels.

And in terms of riding? I'll ride anything but given all my (working) bikes are hardtails it is mainly singletrack with nothing more than 1 foot or so drop-offs. Any more than that and I'd rather not risk the trip to the hospital... having said that, I do like riding down flights of stairs even if my dentist would probably recommend against it!
