So what did your bike cost you BITD then?

Don't have any pix unfortunately but BITD my pearl-white cro-mega frame cost me £110 from my friendly LBS in Sprowston (Norwich...) and I swapped the kit over from my '88 Marin Palisades (8-speed LX STi) initially and added to it over time (XT thumbies and purple canti's/levers, etc...)

Later sold it to a mate at work for about £250 if I recall??

Being really picky didn't really want to go pointing out historical inaccuracies in random tales of bikes gone passed but... 1988 LX 8 speed?

I thought 8speed shimano groupsets came in with XTR m900 in the 90's?

'88 Palisades (which I bought in '91 for £75 BTW) came with cheap thumbies, LBS had LX STI's in display case where they'd stripped another bike - where probably 95% of my kit came from...

bought in the summer of 1990

If that picture was taken in the summer too, I'm glad I don't live over there.

Right, back on topic ...

I never bought any noteworthy MTB in the shop. I always got the lesser-known uninteresting models.
The only interesting bikes I bought were always second-hand ones.

My Overbury's Pioneer XC...February 1986...£618. Saved up my dole money for 9months to get it, but it's still going strong (just a diferent colour now!)

All the best,

My Explosif had £100 off at Langsett Cycles & cost me £699 in 1989. Unfortunately, I hadn't left enough to buy a decent camera :D

carrera krakatoa dec 1991 i believe, £350

swapped out all the parts and eventually the frame for a Merlin (as in the Ormskirk bike shop) generic aluminium frame. That cost around £600 in parts.

I sold that for £400 and bought a 1995 Kona Fire Mountain from Leisure Lakes. That bike became my first retrobike build. threw best part of a grand into it then realised it had lost all of its charm so stripped it and sold it on

My first new mountain bike was my 1997 Stumpjumper M2. Bought for £1049 I think from Sensible cycles in Liss in Hampshire. I had taken out a 2 grand bank loan and bought a B reg volvo 240 DL estate with the other half of it. Loved that car. Still love the bike!
Will try and sort out some period photos in a bit. ;)

My '91 Fire Mountain was £329 IIRC, one of very few pic's I have of it. Running amber wall speccy nimbus, complete with classy MBUK Mint Sauce stickers, Specialised "airforce? helmet and Essex Winter Series race number. Pic is from late summer 1993.

Bike has long since gone :-( but I still have the Vistalite LED rear light. :D
