So Do You Count The Cost Of Your Builds ?

Do you add up your costs ? Or just try to ignore it ...

I don't actively sit down and add up the cost of each bike as such, but I do know exactly what some have costed me including shipping.

I do add up the cost of annoying items though which can be a real cause of irritaion especially when you work out that you need 20 tubes and 10 sets of pedals to complete builds...

It's a force of habbit for me to practically have a set of accounts for my bike builds. Working in accounts just gives me that frame of mind.

I initially thought my Stumpjumper build would be quite a cheap one - maybe £200 ish. I recon it'll end up at nearly double that in the end. £15 here and £20 there soon adds up!

I do, I use a SS based on the tech spec sheet from here.
I know what the original spec with RRP of the bike in one column.
Column for what I paid and for parts upgraded and changed.
Sheet for parts 'in stock' and swapped off bikes.

I know what I've spent :shock: in some cases compared to what it should've cost and it saves the :? should I come to sell anything looking for a return.

Plus it's kind of a stock check and a possible insurance value.


But, I do work in I.T. and am called a geek.

hell yeah it's the only way I can keep track of finances otherwise I wouldn't know what happened to that £8500 last year.......

probaly spent £6,000 or so in the past 5 months on bikes.......i figure that will be well over £10,000 when the jeff jones comes along

ridiculous amount of money, not good at all but cheaper than betting/going to the boozer every night.

Not a chance - way too scary

Got one bike alone sitting here (admittedly not a retro bike or even an MTB!!) which owes me over £8k - but then its the best thing I've ever ridden, ever....period.
