So Do You Count The Cost Of Your Builds ?

No never. The thought of it makes me shudder. I probably would not build another bike if I knew. Ignorance is bliss.

On the otherhand,, I was doing my accounts last week and had to go through the reciepts for my Alfa Romeo rebuild. I really wish I hadn't done that. It's not even painted yet and I'm in over £11k since last summer.

If you think bikes are an expensive hobby you should try old cars!

not anymore!

The last build I counted was my Santa Cruz superlight about ten years ago, that was 4.5k not done it since!

I did once do a quick 'replacement cost' count of my bikes a few years back. I had an interesting time convincing my insurance company that pushbikes could be worth 20k.

I don't have anything like that anymore though. I have found a cheaper hobby, It's called cocaine!! ;)

If I have a suspicion that something is running out of control, I do a quick tally and have a clearout as necessary.

I spreadsheet everything! so I know my Litespeed cost 1,220.19 so far.. However most of the XTR Mechs/Brakes/Crank and wheels came off my Trek so I saved there.

At the end of the day, I now have one cool bikes, one supercool lightweight bike and and even lighter bank balance! Nice!
