Hello All

I snapped my collar bone on Saturday (rugby incident). I'm gutted, we're approaching my favourite time of the year to be on the trails and there is no way i can get out there.

Has anyone here busted a collar bone and how long does it take to mend?

I'm going to have to resort to spending time selling a few bits on here ready to fund the latest project instead I reckon.

Depends on age, my son took six weeks to get better, he was 6 - it pulls you over to one side as the bone meshes again - he looked like the Hunchback of Notredam for a couple of weeks.

I was back on my bike after a week, albeit one handed!!

It was about 12 wks in total, but was ok to cycle with safely after about 3/4 weeks (ask Bradley Wiggins :D )

It was a long time ago but from memory - about six weeks ish ?

I had a floating piece though i.e. three piece bone with either end connected and a loose bit in the middle. Hospital had me wear a figure of eight bandage / dressing.

Get well soon !

Thanks for the guidance. I've been asked to wait 3 weeks before driving (luckily I can 'work from home').

Mr Wiggins was in an oxygen tent for much of his recuperation. Perhaps I'll try and rig up something similar with the dome tent and my mates scuba gear

 I think he also had it bolted which I didn't benefit from  I now have a nice lump as a reminder.

I have my orthopedic surgeon on speed dial.

Did my collarbone twice. The second being a few weeks into the healing process, got out of the shower and without thinking slung a towel around me to dry my back, collar bone went from being almost perfectly aligned and partially healed to being misaligned and re-broken.

Still I think I was gingerly on the bike again in 6 weeks. It was the internal bleeding I picked up in the same crash that could really I've been nasty!

i was back on my bike in 3 weeks after snapping mine, but i was 14, so like 19 years ago

4 weeks for me, don't forget to take 100% rest the first week and then slowly start to get all the joints moving again (elbow/shoulder)
All the best!
