Silverfish 1993 Fat Chance Ti

i am so glad you got this, there is a small part of this bikes story you don't know!

this picture was taken a few months ago at my shop, obvs it's the same bike!

about a year ago i think, i was down the local brewery with some friends, they are in to bikes but they are mostly a little younger than me in their 30's etc, they think they know a lot about bikes, and they do, but me being a little older i know more, don't mean that in a big headed way it's just knowledge over time. anyway, that night i had turned up on my fat chance buckshaver, now none of these guys had heard of fat chance before, so they were crawling all over it. now with this bunch of guys they like to one up each other quite a bit, and sometimes i think they want to one up me . . . but i don't care, so they all went on ebay, facebook marketplace etc and they found a buckshaver available in southampton, then bought it, but that's not a big enough one up is it? it had to be better than a buckshaver . . . then this bike popped up, so one of them bought it, they proceeded to show it off a bit, but frankly the owner was too fat to have a chance of riding it! (see what i did there?) i don't mean that in a mean way, these bikes were made for racing and when like me you get a bit of a spread it's hard to be comfortable on them! this guy sold it, i heard back to the guy he'd bought it off.

but i'm pleased because this guy didn't buy it because he understands the relevance of the bike, the brand, it was just a tool for a one up situation amongst the group of friends. it's good that he decided to sell and it's good that someone like yourself got it.

Thank you
It’s definitely the same bike yes 👍
Although it’s starting to look a little different already. Not much different, just some little tweaks. I’m not sure I can bring myself to remove the McMahon bars and stem. As much as I want to put a Ringle on there, the colours on the McMahon stuff really do match up perfectly.
And I sold McMahon in the UK from 1995-1998 so I very likely sold these very bars and stem 😀

Certainly not perfect (mainly owing to gloss Vs matt finish) but some P2's are very close to raw ti...

Not suggesting for a second on your build but a happy accident on mine that I'm pleased with (please excuse the pig ugly headset!).
It definitely looks cleaner. I think I’d need an IRD titanium fork and that will be bonkers spendy - so I’m thinking I just learn to live with the silver bit messing up my OCD 🤣

IMG_9841.jpeg IMG_9842.jpeg IMG_9844.jpeg Switched out the King Gripnut in silver for a black one tonight, and temporarily fitted the toothpicks off a donor Fat.

Not tried the Decelerator brakes yet but the black definitely looks classy. Not completely sure it’s just a bit boring 🤣

For me 93 and 94 was all about the bling! 🤣🤣🤣

Wanted to try the Cook’s cranks on the Fat Ti.

Figured I had a Cook’s 127mm BB that I could try - probably a bit long for RSR’s on a 68mm shell but worth a shot.

Bought this BB recently but was sat in a box earmarked for the ARC.

One of the bearing covers is cracked and the other one is seized and the bolt is already rounded 🤦‍♂️😡

An hour later I’ve just managed to drill and tap out the seized bearing cover. Need to find some replacement bolts now and another non-cracked bearing cover… IMG_9880.jpeg image.jpg

Or if you are going black you could keep the Ti stem and use black bars to match the seatpost, assuming you are going with black post!?
Thank you
I think I’ll keep the ti post tho.
And run a black stem with the ti bar.
Assuming I can find a black Ringle. Feels like that won’t be easy…

Cook’s BB looks awesome on there but might be a tad long.
Hard to know for sure because I can’t set up the front mech as the front XTR pod needs a rebuild - it’s got that classic sticky lever going on 🤦‍♂️
I might also switch out the rings to silver as well - add a bit of contrast. IMG_9884.jpeg IMG_9886.jpeg
