These downtube decals came from Gil but JonRock also offers them I think?

The seat tube decal was an original and came with the frame.

serial number is 2M642

From what a guy on the Klein forum told me Mountain Klein # 1122 was ordered on 16/3/87 and delivered a week or so later. He apparently got that information from the original owner who has a copy of the original invoice.

No idea personally if that’s true though.

Based on mine being approximately 400 after that, he estimates mine is probably a mid 87. From 1985 through to 1989 there were a little over 3000 Mountain Kleins made.

I’d already decided on a Deerhead build when I thought it was an 85. I’ve decided to stick with a Deerhead build tho I probably could have gone XT.

That's all accurate...and I may have been that guy. Your frame is #1602. As far as components, it's tough to say what is "correct." Klein had catalog builds but you could custom order anything you wanted including custom paint. You could also buy as a frame set only, which could have been built up with earlier components on hand, or not built the first time until years later.

It's a hexadecimal system. Hexadecimal includes characters 0-9 and A-F. You can find converters online or create one in Excel.

M (early), 2M, or 2M0 (late) = Mountain Klein
The last three digits are the hexadecimal production number. 642 in hexadecimal = 1602 in decimal (normal) numbering
