Red with Deerhead not only rhymes, but think this would look amazing. Deerhead would look spot on with the roller cams and you might as well chuck in a cheap pair of Suntour XC-ll pedals too . Just don't tell your shins! Oh and a Hite Rite would look cool, they came out in 1984 I think...Maybe I'm overthinking it and I stick with Deerhead I've never done a restoration with Deerheadand that was Plan A so I shall stick with that. And I think I'm going to go with the red version.
XCii’s I’m working on.Red with Deerhead not only rhymes, but think this would look amazing. Do you have a pair of calipers to measure the ID of the seat tube? Can be quite hard getting a decent reading as the internal measuring jaws are quite short so won't protrude much into the seat tube.XCii’s I’m working on.
Hite Rite I’ve got
Not sure if it’s a 27.2 or 27.4 post tho. Had been told it was 26.4 or 26.8 (not by the seller) but that’s way too small.
I do yes and the calipers measure 27.4.Do you have a pair of calipers to measure the ID of the seat tube? Can be quite hard getting a decent reading as the internal measuring jaws are quite short so won't protrude much into the seat tube.
Otherwise buy a cheap 27.2 (you might have one to hand?) and check the fit as it's a pretty common size and go from there. Are you friendly with a local bike shop, they normally have a big stash of used/swapped-out seat posts and should be able to help. Try more than one 27.2mm DIA as sometimes they are not quite the size they say they are!
Looking good, yeah get it powder coated in the red with the original colour code, cant wait to see how that comes out.I do yes and the calipers measure 27.4.
If I can’t source a 27.4 post I’ll try a 27.2.
We don’t have one of the old skool seatpost sizers at Silverfish anymore.
New problem is the axle is too short for the Shimano 6206 crank set up clearance on the non drive side is 2.22mm. So I either need to find a new axle, or a crank with a wider Q factor.
And the rear hub/freewheel is going to need a rebuild. Felt smooth in the truing stand but loads of play in the cones. I bloody love removing freewheels (not)!
Gave part of the frame a bit of a polish and it comes up pretty good but I'm kinda set on the red paint for now.
That’ll do for tonight. Bit of a disappointing evening but that’s gonna happen with nearly 40 year old bike parts View attachment 868614View attachment 868615View attachment 868616View attachment 868617View attachment 868618View attachment 868619View attachment 868620
100% agree! But still think the red with the chrome fork and silver parts will look class
Nice Mitutoyo calipers! It's dangerous just measuring from the top of the seatpost as it can get deformed due to the opening/closing of the QR and the slotted top. With telescopic gauges you can drop them in a lot further to get readings lower down to check consistency.I do yes and the calipers measure 27.4.
