Sigma speedo magnet distance?

Part 2 of fixing the bodge jobs I did on my bike years ago lol...

I've got this Sigma 506 speedo from new.

I've never understood the manual, it says a maximum distance of 5mm between the magnet and the sensor, with the magnet close to the rim.

But if the magnet is close to the rim, the distance is more like 2cm (guess), and therefore it doesn't pick it up on the sensor.

So when I first bought it I bodged it by using a cut up old handlebar grip to push the sensor closer. See photos.

Surely there's a better solution to this?
Help please

It's designed for road bikes, the closeness to the rim is only to improve accuracy. Try moving the magnet nearer to the hub so you can achieve the 5mm gap.

My Sigma magnets are near where the spokes cross. Nothing wrong with your sensor spacer, either.

Are you saying this specific model is designed for road bikes?
Or are all speedos designed for road bikes?

Do you know what I've realised since posting this topic... No matter where on the spoke the magnet goes, the wheel still does one complete revolution. It's just that the outer edge of the wheel has to travel faster.

How funny that I even considered that the inside of the wheel would spin more than the outer haha!!

Will move it closer to the hub, and I've bought myself some nice thin zipties for the cable rather than the current electrical tape lol.
