Here's my other Specialized single-speed conversion, done for a friend.
As mentioned with the previous white Rock Hopper bike mod, my friend's sister rode said bike for one year before upgrading to a '98 Stump Jumper. Well, here's that 'Jumper in the "flesh".
She rode this bike for 3 more years before upgrading again, this time to a Ventana El Fuego. The Stumper frame sat in indoor storage for several years until I decided to make something of it fro my buddy. The paint is original and in beautiful condition.
I slapped an old set of Wheelsmith-built wheels I bought used in 1997 on it (Mavic 317 rims, rare polished '95 XTR front hub, XT rear) shodded them with some narrow 26x1.25 tires, and then I stripped and painted an RST Capa fork metallic blue to roughly match the Specialized's paint. For the drivetrain I converted an 8-speed cassette into a single, re-using the 16-tooth cog and making my own spacers for it.
Since these pics were taken the bike has been re-outfitted with an Ultegra crank and a larger 53-tooth chainring. The owner has very powerful legs []. Additional items include a Team Ritchey stem and Azonic Double-wall bars and 1997 XTR brake levers.
That owner just loves it. Project declared a success.
