I've only fairly recently come round to disc brakes, had Magura HS33's or XTR M951's on all my bikes but had some squeaky bum moments on steep descents and decided to try discs out on my 99 Kona Chute as it had the tabs and I've been converted. Hanna has only just made the change and I feel a lot more confident on her.
Just my personal opinion, I think you really do get what you pay for with disc brakes, I tried some Elixir 1's from Chain Reaction for £20 a brake and they were crap, pads were crap, modulation was crap, adjustment was crap, pain in the arse to bleed. There was no redeeming features. Then bought some XT M785's and those things will stop on a dime, awesome brakes with one finger braking. The Hope Mini 5's on Hanna aren't quite as sharp but are still a fantastic all round brake.
