Thanks for the replies and likes guys!
Can't say that Steve rode it or touched it - but can't say he didn't either, there's always a lot of "Giz a go on yer bike mate" when bikers get together.
The US team were very friendly with the Brit team in 1964 as it was their first ISDT and they were obviously after some hints and tips.
The rider of 270 was Arthur Bates in 1964, he was a top Brit rider, pic below is Arthur right and Steve left having a chinwag.

And another at a check point, Steve far left and Arthur far right, another one of the US team kneeling.

I've not ridden it yet, got to get it running properly as a winter project.

In January last year I bought this Royal Enfield classic 500. However, up to that point I had never ridden a motorbike in my life and had no licence to do so! All I needed to to do was get some lessons, pass a test and off i could go!!!!! Smile was wiped off my face when I found that no theory test centres were open because of Covid, there were millions of people waiting for driving instructors to take them on their books and test centres weren't open. For those unaware, to get a modern full motorbike 'A' licence now involves taking five tests. Piecemeal over the summer i managed to work my way through these and finally passed in November. Tests were taken on a Yamaha MT 07 (700cc) and a Kawasaki Z650. Up til then I could only start up my RE in the garage, sitting on it like Mr Toad going 'Broom Broom'.

Clocked up 600 miles on the RE since then, but cautiously only going out on really dry days as yet. Roll on spring.

That is gorgeous and (now I have my CBT under my belt) my journey may mirror yours!

Still fairly new to motor biking.
Undertook and passed my first CBT in about 1997 - but went for a car license shortly thereafter so the CBT cert expired.

Undertook and passed my second CBT in early 2019, bought a 125 and had a lovely summer of riding to and from work, with a view to doing my tests in 2020.

Covid kicked in, I had nowhere to ride to, and subsequently my CBT cert expired as training schools weren’t open, and there was no elongation of the certificate.

Undertook and passed my third CBT in June 2021, passed my theory in September 2021, but due to work commitments, family illnesses and general life stuff - haven’t ridden until just last week.

Plan is to undertake a bit more training and take the next 2 tests before my current cert expires!

Here’s my Mutt Hilts 125
