I painted this '92 LavaDome cuz I didn't think it looked enough like lava. Wife kinda screwed up her face and said, "It looks like an alligator." I like that even better.

Wow Dave that crackle paint effect is super cool looking. Any chance you could share more detail pictures, perhaps some information on how you created the effect?

That was a montana gold project. Montana primer, yellow/orange/red fade front-to-back with a black underbelly, montana crackle effect over.

The crackle effect paint is convenient but dreadfully temperature dependent and very difficult to get uniform thickness around a tube. Do it again, I'd probably do drip effect with Elmer's glue.

Light coat of Spraymax 2k clear, wait overnight, sand, then slather that stuff on like butter, thicker the better
