I concur, but a new frame with a smattering of old parts does not a retro-mod make. Come on guys, at least start with an old frame. This is the pre 98 forum, we don't want to see ugly, bendy downtubed 2014 abominations, post them on the modern forum.
Another abortion of a 2014 frame just to annoy Hotwheels :xmas-wink: although it does fit into the description of the OPs in one way or another.
2014 Whishart frame. Designed by me and made a few blocks from my place in East Vancouver by a riding buddy.
One reason for it being somewhat retro is that it's fillet brazed steel, so to be pedantic it fits the retro description better than just being old Something I've always wanted since seeing Overburys adverts in early MBUKs.
Other than the 650B wheels and 65 degree head angle, I've kept the bike pretty simple / old school. I drilled the rear XT clutch derailleur to allow me to use an XT thumbshifter but keep a normal lever throw (friction / 10 speed). Cable disc brake (BB7), Tune seatpost as a bit of a nod to the OG Syncros posts. The bar is almost flat! 10mm rise but 760mm wide and 35mm diameter.Weirdly the saddle looks fairly level in real life, yet slopes down on the photo...the shame
first post here, not the bikest bike head , just rebuliding an old mtb everytime the last gets stolen ,
fun fairweather city commuting in continental climate hilly city ( vienna ) is the task.
born in the 70ies so the 90ies are the period to start out , always.
just don´t feel at home on them hipsta caffee racers .
and i tend to break em too.
just thought i´d post my latest and greatest as a thank you for all the inspiration guys.
supposedly a cannondale 1991 SM800 frame , bought it somewhere in the boonies stripped so not sure....
comfy cockpit , lil else.
mix and match of what i liked and could get ahold of for parts.
work in progress of course , new roadwheels and a less beat crankset next.
otherwise i´m pretty happy so far.
My First MTB which I got about 3 months ago, always been a BMX rider. It was pretty original when I received it.
I found the final piece of the Jigsaw last week. A Kona top cap with the year I was born. Luckily, after a few weeks searching it turns out one of my LBS had one in their spare jar.
It's a bit of a budget build with a few second hand parts and searching ebay etc
But I'm happy with it and it rides good
(Sorry for the poor pictures they are from my iPhone)
