I am starting to restomod this GT Tequesta (or is it a Timberline?)
I bought it last week, the previous owner bought it with this terrible paint job and left it in the garage for years. Because of the paint, the model stickers are gone.
I would love to get help identifying this GT, my best guess is a Tequesta because of the mostly original STX components and ahead stem.
Cantilever breaks, front and rear derailleur are STX, brakelevers / gear shifter are Altus A20, GT Ergobar, Dia-Compe Stem (Ahead).
Model year probably 95 maybe 94. GT started using STX around 94, and from 96 onwards they seemed to have switched to V-Brakes. The German 94 catalog only has brief descriptions of each model. I can't find a 95 catalog of all models.
This GT will become my daily and Gravel / Cross Country bike.
I plan to strip of the paint and leave it bare steel, no paint. I have already started to switch the components from my previous MTB (Merida Dakar 1992) including the Microshift Advent X 1x10 and adjust the geometry, saddle height, position, stem cockpit height, handlebar.
I will switch wheels from my other 26 MTB, but soon will replace the Schwalbe Billy Bonkers with either Continental Cross King 2.3 front and Race King 2.1 rear - or - Vittoria Barzo 2.25 front, Mezcal 2.1 rear. The Vittoria tires are not easy to get at the moment but they look much cooler than the Contis. The comparable Schwalbe models seem to be much heavier.
I might convert it to a 69 with a 29 rigid fork. Maybe with either a 29er or a fat 27,5 in front. I think tan walls don't work for a 69er.
I have posted YouTube videos in English and German about the GT project
