I picked up this GT last summer. Didn't have any inkling as to what it was, I just thought it was time for a GT project.

It was even more terrible than it looks - every bolt that should have been Allen had been swapped for a hex head. Also someone started to drill holes in the top of the stem.

Anyway, stripped it down and discovered;

It's a 1909 bike - YES!

Er wait, that's 6061! So yes, It is a Zaskar.

I went to work, and here it is;

Did the paint myself, got the decals from eBay.

Got some XTR, some ATAK hubs on SUN rims, the Judy still goes up and down, and yeah, I'm very happy with it,

Here is my Gumtree GT Timberline that I've had for a few years now. It was a bit or beater and I've bought it without having a great purpose for it but I've found that I've been using it quite a bit. It was singlespeed for while but I realised I need my knees to last a bit longer. Now has an 8 speed Alfine rear hub. Once you get over the added weight of the rear hub then it is a smoothly shifting addition that makes it more ridable. I have also hung anything green I have on it which may or may not be great idea.

It has evolved more into a cyclepath and light trail MTB which is super since I have quite a few paths and trails tucked away in our area. I do really enjoy riding this one even if it is a firmly middle range kind of bike. The early 90's GT paint jobs are worthy of a restoration on that alone.

Behold Justin Timberline.

This was the 'before'.

Now we have got to this .........
