Claud Butlers first mountain bike, The Canyon...
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=404128
Advertised/sold in 1985, this one has a frame production number from November 1984.
Catalogue had it pretty much all SR or SunTour, however this one has been upgraded with full period correct Shimano Deore XT "deerhead" and 600EX....

That's a very handsome bike.

Re:

A good mate of mine had a claud butler back in the day, was a thin tubed frame with lugs around the tube joins, pretty sure it was 501, in blue, was an 'Enduro' and came with full altus groupset when they brought out the 'microdrive' setup on the cranks, had really tiny rings if i remember right.
He went everywhere on that bike, rode pretty well if I remember right.

And another lad I knew had a fat alloy framed one badged as a 'zagato' dark blue with light blue swirls in it, that got stolen so he bought the same model again in ball burnished alloy!

Re:

Here's my Franken-Claud. A '92 Pagan frame made of 501 Magnum tubing with a (rather lovely) 531 bi-plane fork from a Thorn. Full Deore II (MT-62) groupset, a repo Turbo and some cheap massive volume Schwalbe tyres. It's a really lovely ride and gets far more complements than any of my other (far more expensive) bikes.

Very good.... nice to hear someone appreciating the comfort of Reynolds steal for once rather than bemoaning how heavy it is...

I had a 1990 'Spirit' in 'Pearlescent Aqua Marine' - it was a full 400LX Gruppo with an 'upgrade' of a Flexstem.

Was a lovely ride if a little heavy until some tealeaf nicked it at Uni. Always hankered after a Cape Wrath of the same year - always had a thing about black bikes!

Re: Claud Butler Urraco

Recently refurbed Urraco, very nice ride.
