Show us your CLAUD BUTLER

Hi here's my 91/92? Ventoux not sure where it was in the lineup as I can't find it in any catalogues. Anyway it is the same colour as my Pink Spectre I had as a teenager so had to have it (frame only) rear dropouts had been squashed so had to cold set it and built it up with a spare STX group set I had. The last picture is my teenage years bikes I have managed to buy over the last few years, Holdsworth Zagora,Claud Butler, Raleigh Ti2000 the first 2 got stolen and the Raleigh I sold to fund my first car.

My Claud Butler Cape Wrath 1997 - Not 100% finished but enough to get out for a ride along the coast. The rear wheel is the only problem. I had it trued at the bike shop which fixed the left to right buckle but its still left with an up and down motion (which I'm not sure if you can correct.) The only TLC it needs is a better rear Mavic 221 rim to be honest as the bike shop said the one it has on has took a bit of a battering - it rides fine but thats my next job to hunt out a nice smooth rear 221 rim. I have a Mavic D521 on a gold Deore LX hub but wouldn't really do it justice. We Continue.... proper got the bug for restoring the old MTBs and already on the lookout for a late 80s project when it pops up! Thanks to this Forum and plenty of clued up members for their help in my first go at the MTBs.

Nice.
It would have received its graphics right on the very very end of ‘92. These Aluminium frames first appeared in print in the 1993 catalogue (printed November’92) with a completely new graphic style, although some earliest trial frames received in Brigg from the Far East did get dressed up with these graphics from 1992.
Have you found any date codes on the kit?

Hi Peachy
I have frame numbers on rear drop out and BB shell
Rear drop out number TA30212358
Bb number IG620P 164
Takes 30.0mm seat post
Has Exage 500 LX mechs
Any idea on the model ?
Had a Brodie brake booster and a Ringle holey seat binder as well !
Plus Atac stem sealed the deal ..
Thanks for sharing your knowledge on the matter

Unfortunately as Brigg were trying out a number of different partners during this period the original manufactures frame numbers don’t really help with ID & as we currently don’t have a 1993 catalogue it’s gonna have to be a guess. Although an educated one because of the LX group might possibly suggest a Spectre as during this period this normally sat just below the DX equipped Cape Wrath & XT equipped Antaeus.
Fingers crossed the ‘93 catalogue turns up! (We know it exists as we have a scan of the ‘93 Antaeus)

Thanks again i appreciate the additional information on this brand !
Hopefully the 1993 catalogue will surface someday , would very much like to view it !
Only picked it up yesterday and after a day hunting for images of another in this colour and decals just hit a brick wall!
Cheers

Now this is not mine, but it might be at some point if it comes up for sale again. It was for sale locally but I just missed out, I've a hunch it's been bought by a chap who does them up and re-sells them, time will tell....

Anyway, Claud Butler "Midas", Altus C10 baby!! 😎
