What do you think of the Essex vs the 2.8? I'll have another capri at some point, but it certainly won't be another 2.8, although it'll probably end up with a v8 in it anyway...

Nice Caddy.

The 2.8i is a different beast altogether, the Cologne motor was designed to address all the issues with the Essex, it's a smoother quieter motor, generally better behaved than the Essex, better fuel ecconomy and better starting and idling from cold etc due to fuel injection, also with the Essex you are stuck with four speeds with the 2.8i you get five speeds and a taller overall gearing so motorway cruising as better, a five speed box can be fitted to the Essex but it's not cheap or easy.

But the Essex motor will always sound better than a 2.8i due to the 2.8i having siamesed exhaust ports in the heads and a different firing order, the 3.0 Essex puts out more torque lower down so feels more grunty but is rather thursty, i'd say the 2.8i would be better for regular use, the 3.0S for blatting round town and backroads.

I mainly went for the 3.0S for the sound and grunt and it's a bit more special than a 2.8i.

If you are going to build a V8 though dont use a 3.0 car as they are getting rare.

This is about the best site for Capri's www.capripower.co.uk

I'll never get bored of showing pictures of my baby.

Seen here scaring the natives at the local Landie stealership. :D

Not as nice as a lot of cars on here, but it's quite nippy (130 BHP & 229lbft of torque) & cheap (50mpg), carries me & the bikes in comfort.

Shame the Scooby behind it isn't mine, I'd love a Scooby.

Like the jeep

Here's my ride - cheap, fast, retro and you can get a bike in the back, what more do you need?

(GT 40 maybe.... )

I'd class a 4-speed as an advantage - I went through 4 (admittedly second hand rather than even recon but still) type-9s in a year on my 2.8! & the gearing was too high so I dropped a 2L axle in. Anyway, I expect I'll just find another laser, & throw an LS1 at it :)
Wouldn't mind giving a 3.0S a go sometime though.

My cousin has a theory that most mountain bikers roll up to trailcentres in 10 pound sheds then pull a 4K bike out of the back. Is there any truth in this?

Used to. Had a rough old mk2 Cav and a Litespeed mtb back in the late 90s.

the reason i have the volvo is its my fav car since i saw one at the hannover car show in 82 in red.itsjust such fun to drive...and it looks like a house brick.....but goes like stink when the turbo kicks in.......carries tonnes of stuff plus a budweiser cooler and 4 bike racks....leather int,air con ,abs ...a heater that could melt an ice berg in minutes, heated seats, power steering ect ...all for just 350 squideroonis..having gun mounts fitted next :D :D

Yeah, the Type 5 is much stronger than the Type 9, has a nicer "snick, snick" change too

I'm sure there is a few LS1 Capri's about already, great thing about them is the huge engine bay, a 7 litre big block will sit in there no problem :)
