The guy I bought it from in Boston only raced it for a couple of years, then put it in storage. Plus he's French, and you know the French never wreck their bikes. :)

The X-Vert will probably stay in the condition. So far, no luck in finding a stiffer spring set. So I'll probably put an '03 Boxxer on it. Can find all kinds of spring sets and rebuild kits for the older Boxxer's still out there.

If I can get back in shape in time, I'm wanting to race it at next year's US National's at Mammoth Mountain. Would be awesome if Palmer brings the Intense team there to have him sign it.

Final stage. Will be replaced by a modern bike in winter. Saw some bikeparks with downhill and flow lines, 60m drops, everything without any quirks. Great material.

1x8 geartrain. 30x36 lowest gear.

Replace?? No don't replace it. My primary trail bike is a 97 GC that still has the original 3 inch travel Judy fork on it.
 
It is really fun to ride but its potential is quite limited when it comes to technical trails... Which i prefer :)

i've just finished servicing my xvert DH.
still trying to get bushes sorted for my frame bearing upgrade. im getting bored talking about it. might just spend some overdraft money on the kit from BETD.... :roll:
 
Re: Show us yer FSR's - Removing Manitou X-Vert Carbon thru axle

So after a couple of weeks of tentative attempts I finally got the thru axle out of the X-Vert Carbons. It's not really intuitive. The last time I had worked on one was around 2003 and I completely brain dumped on working on them. So just in case anyone is having an issue with a 15 year old X-Vert here's the tips.

Unlike most dual crown forks (most in this case meaning Boxxers, cause that's what I've worked on and was mis-remembering the X-Vert to be the same), the cap side is not the threaded side (even though it looked like it is to me). So you can't just loosen the cap and pop the axle out. The threads are on the opposite end from where you put the hex key in. And if you have a fork in which the threads were never greased (like mine) and they haven't been out in a dozen or more years, they are going to be seized. What you do is leave the threaded end clamping screws tight and just crank on the hex key for all you are worth. It took me a few days of being a little firmer and a little firmer. I was at the point where I was worried I might damage the fork, but I didn't and the threads finally broke free.

This will go better with photos, I'll post some tomorrow.

And don't forget to grease those puppies up before you put it back together.
