If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all...

If that were true then all internet forums would stop working tomorrow.

Maybe I am missing something too but in what world is a slick tyred, no geared, white saddled bike a 'trip down memory lane'? Were you a 14 year old clairvoyant hipster able to see 20 years in to the future and predict the popularity of parts bin bikes?

If you are happy to post up a mess of a hack/pub bike on a site dedicated to VRC mountain bikes for all to see then learn to roll with all the comments that are made, not just the ones blowing smoke up your arse.

Hey, I'm all for comments that have some rationale behind them (I'm not sure that white saddle looks right or singlespeed aint my thing or those tyres aren't age correct or whatever) but nobody needs to be offensive when showing their dislike for something...

It's a frame that has singlespeed suitable dropouts, it has quite nice geometry, it's the right size for me, IT WAS FREE!

Constuctive criticism is welcomed and embraced, being nice doesn't exclusively mean being complimentary...

BTW, I think Rob Atkins' Tequesta story is great and it's good to see it being used as an ATB should be...

I only own 2 bikes (shock horror) and the Hardrock is the one I'd be happy to ride to the pub/mates house/work on and not worry too much what happens to it...

I know this site is for VRC bikes but I didn't think it was just for, totally original, age correct down to every last detail and no exceptions, bikes...

Maybe that should have it's own forum category?

It does, its called 'Off Topic', alternatively there is this thread:

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... &start=390

for all manner of Frankenbikes

I think you'll find "Reader's MTBs --> 1997" is a fair description of the thread I started....

Want I meant was, maybe you need a category called "Reader's MTBs --> 1997 --> Faithful Originals and Restorations with only Age Related Modifications and Upgrades

Jesus, I mean really.... really?

was that before or after you edited the text and title of the original thread you started?

Only if I'd changed it to: "Who wants to offend an unsuspecting new member, without any due cause?"

But that wouldn't go in the "Reader's MTBs --> 1997" would it.

Alright, I think this has run it's course.

Let's go back to looking at the bikes if we like to or ignoring them and not looking if we prefer that, shall we?

Welcome Andy, there are a lot of early nineties Specialized on here.

Before they lock, you all need to re-read this for its brilliance

Were you a 14 year old clairvoyant hipster able to see 20 years in to the future and predict the popularity of parts bin bikes?

Same old argument, and it will end the same way. My first bike was a Huffy. I loved it, rode it hard, and still think about it sometimes. If found for sale I might even buy it for [very] cheap just for nostalgia. But I certainly wouldn't make a thread on a forum for it. It was just an old crappy bike. Why not spend time on the net looking at and talking about nice bikes?
