Shiny and perfect or ugly and functional?

There are some truly beautiful bike builds on this site but do you take them on a trail? I like perfectly restored bikes too but I really love my ugly 1997 santa cruz heckler. It rides great and I don't worry about scratching it. I want to see other ugly trail bikes.

Oh, this sure is the thread for me.
I have several very purposeful and functional bikes.

There is my Klein Mantra, for example. For rough stuff (rough for my taste, that is)


And my go to bike for everything. The Ibis Szasbo. In its current configuration it even has a rather modern Magura O24U- air fork, a Spinergy Spox wheelset and 9speed drivetrain.







And of course my special "I don't care if you steal it, I even use it for the beach"-bike. I call it "the Frankenmoser"

The Rudy I'm building looks pretty shiny and matching at the moment, but it won't stay looking like that for long!

Functional and reliable is what counts, the rest is just cosmetics.

Ugly and functional just like me(!)
