Shimano zee left crank arm clamp bolt stripped

As ad had plenty of hollowtech cranks tightening up pedal arm as done a few over the years. Just one of the m5 bolts just stripped thread out. It's a brand new crank but purchased second hand. Question drill out re tap with m8 plenty of metal either side so it doesn't catch the other bolt or counter sink opposite side and sink a nut in and use a slightly longer m5 bolt than the standard shimano supplied. Only because I'm tight fisted and don't wanna spend £20 on a left arm

Helicoil back to M5 would be easiest and cleanest.

M8 is a typo i guess. M6 would require you to dick about with altering the spot face

Hi yeah typo error.I've tapped out with a m8 re threaded and used a slightly longer bolt just to make sure new bolt has a bit more thread to grab on to. Seems to be doing the job. Never tried helicoils there a bit of an art form if your unsure what your doing with em I believe

Nah, helicoils are a doddle in aluminium, especially short small threads.
Don't even really need any special tools beyond the correct tap. And i guess an M6 would do in a pinch. But no idea (mine always came in a labelled box, as part of a complete kit, so never needed to check!)

Have to give them a try next time. Well hopefully I won't strip a thread on one of these cranks again but know for future reference about helicoils . Thanks for the imput cheers rod
