Shimano XTR 9xx compatibility?

I'm nearly 100% sure you can. The m910 hubs are basically silver m950 hubs so certain they will, as the m950 hubs were used throughout the m95x era which was of course 9 speed by m952. The standard m900 hubs should also be ok I think. I'm saying this as someone who has not had any issues running 9sp on anything that came 8sp as stock, but that tended to be xt m737 or the LX parallax hubs, not the skinny older schools hubs.

Sort of... You may or may not need to add a thin slither of a washer on the back.
(that's in addition to the 3mm silver back spacer that you shouldn't actually take off).

Reason being that they were not designed for Compact (11T) so are slightly longer and have threading, if you don't and crank them up you can crack the end to remove the wobble of the cassette.

But that is the same for an 8 speed M737 too.

But I use/used mine with a M770 or M780, I can't remember.

Whilst the freehubs are same size for 8/9/10/11 they aren’t necessarily backwards comparable on the flange design.

Not the shimano example asked for but I had some Hope Pro 2 hubs that came with 9 speed, they were not compatible with 11 (per Hopes website) due how the higher speed cassette didn’t clear the spokes properly to the design of the flanges - that’s why the made the Pro 2 Evo to fix this.

So the not totally helpful answer is that theoretically they should be cross compatible, but sometime there may be clearance issues on the other parts.
