Shimano STX-RC Chainset Question

I have just read the STX-RC post from 2011 and really like this groupset. I am currently building an old Specialized Hard Rock up and have a chainset from a Kona Cinder Cone 99 which was being run from new as 8 speed. I have researched a lot and would like to know for sure that I can run this chainset with a 9 speed set up. I will be using Deore shifters and an old 9spd LX rear mech & a newer Deore 9spd front mech.
My chainset is the 4 bolt version which I understand to be the last release version of the STX groupset in 1998/99.

STX-RC chainset should be able to run a 9 speed chain no problem I should think.

I've used 9 and 10spd on a 90s stx-rc with no problems.

Thanks for the replies I have purchased a UN26 shimano bottom bracket to fit it on. I`ve got Deore 9spd shifters & deore front & rear mechs and am looking to now buy a cassette & chain (looking at a HG50 (11-30) with a HG53 chain, I notice the HG50 are harding to come by now with an alivio 4000 series being introduced-hmmm). It all adds up but I had a few bits lying around which I am using but should run nice when I finish it.
