Shimano Freehub compatibilty

M2oli

Retro Newbie
I spent hours... HOURS, finding a solution to replace the freehub on my fh-m737 (Deore XT Parallax) hub. I wanted to keep the bike stock, only the folks here can seem to appreciate this  after all my research, I can 100% confirm that the fh-m950 (XTR) hub is virtually identical except for the Ti parts. The fh-m910 is also compatible, but looks different.

So I now have a beautiful 1996 Parallax hub with a Ti freehub and axle, wonderful weight savings! I didn't want all my research to go to waste, and in doing my research, many people referred to the 737 as "the odd one" as though it was hopeless if the inner bearing races were beat up (freehub side). Well, not so.

For those wondering this will be going on a 1996 Specialized M2 Team Edition :D

I do this all the time with rear hubs that use a Shimano free-hub (e.g. Nuke Proof, Spinergy Spox, XTR M910). Swap out the old steel free-hub body for a new XTR one (compatible form M950 up to M970 and I've used Dura Ace as well, whatever pops up at a decent price). The weight savings are quite decent, and you keep the old style just lighter and better.

Is the 737 8spd? When mine went, a then current Deore freehub went straight on and is still in use.

It was one of these hubs:

* I seem to remember the lip on the XT hub was the issue.

Apologies too, it didnt take me hours though, just a box of spare hubs

Re:

The old parallax hubs are usually polished and have a large diametre body and no mounts for discs. I'm Sure a variety of freehubs work, but i spent hours online trying to figure out what was compatible and most sites and forums specifically said nothing else works.

Hopefully the next guy will find this thread!

Re:

Many moons ago there used to be a freely available Shimano doc called 'freehub interchangeability' this will tell you that FH-M737 uses a Y3SA98010 or Y32P98010 or Y32R98010 free hub.

Y3SA98010: FH-M565, FH-MJ05

Y32P98010: FH-M910

Y32R98010: FH-M910
