Powershift is very nice in feel and rarer than shimano.

Yes, although condition matters.
Mount both the levers and feel the clicks.
We see a lot of 80s British bikes with suntour indexed - I think it was a popular replacement when the shimano kit wore out,
after about 1,000,000 gear changes

IMO index gears are much nicer. I started on friction and still use it. I wouldn't consider it if I could use indexed.

I was thinking of 87 accushift(
) for comparison. The powershift is nicer than 105 on Friction, but good condition, all-compatible index gears are superior to all but the most atavistic retro-grouchesGuinessisgoodforyou

Ah I had the VX fixed in my head, accushift is way better than VX. 70/80s Suntour was great, I'm a big fan. I still run VX, ARX, VX-GT.Wise words Indeed @Guinessisgoodforyou
I was thinking of 87 accushift(
And the winner is Shimano 105...I will hang onto the VX for another day...thanks Guiness and everyone else's input. It helps greatly when making my decision
