For me after you have something that works perfectly, it seems stupid to reinvent it with more parts. Thumbies for the new Fisher, if it has multiple gears.

I used the same DX STI units for well over ten years with no problem. They replaced the thumbies I cracked while turning the bike upside-down to adjust the gear cable. Oh, the irony. Never could get on with them anyway. I've had SRAM twist things for the last couple of years, since "upgrading" to 8 speed, and hate them.

What is a "dual control?"

Sti when set up perfectly followed by thumbies followed lastly by srams push push ,i found with the double push it is hard to get used to after using sti triggers for a while
I do love the sti push pull ,but it needs fiddled with and its not too easy to do unless its on a stand.
thumbies are by far the easiest to adjust on the go ,and its simple tech that never seems to break

I like Gripshift, but then I've only ever used a 7-speed version on my Scott. I find the quick action and not having to lose grip of the 'bar is a benefit.

Mind you I like thumbies as well which will go on the DB when I get round to putting it together next year.

Always liked gripshift but all my bikes have shimano triggers at the mo,got some gripshifts waiting for a project.Hate the sram triggers,my fingers are too long ang was forever dumping the chain onto granny gear, poor old family jewels

I have a lot of love for XC pro thumbies. I recently scored a set of Mavic Y shifters with front and rear Mavic mechs. I'll give them a try, but they are HEAVY!!

I vote thumbies.

Thumbies for me. Never ridden a MTB in anger without them. Tried other folks bikes in the past with other controls and found them alien.

That is going to have to change as I've just bought a new bike which has STI shifters. My quick practice up and down the ice covered road last night, with just a head torch for illumination, shows I've got a lot of learning to do :?

Modern(ish) XT push-pulls or XT thumbies. Probably thumbies on balance for ease of use with frozen fingers! Wouldn't go near gripshift if you paid me.

I'm a thumbie man on my modern bike (pauls/dura ace), but I have mavics on teh Roberts and billet gripshift on the fat, but I'd have to say that the only ones that I love are the Mavics. They are the cockroaches of teh shifter world in that they would survive a nuclear attack and still work! They are the hardest and toughest shifters having done 15 years of quality service with no maintainance. Love 'em!
