Shamals

964Cup

Dirt Disciple
I picked up some Shamal tubulars on eBay recently (or at least so they were advertised). Both have Record hubs, both 16h, the rear a large bell 8-speed Exadrive. So far, so funky.

But...

The front is a 41mm deep rim with sticker graphics; the rear around 45mm with dye-sub (printed) graphics. The graphics are quite different in each case. The front rim also has what I can only describe as "stress-undulations" around the rim just above the spoke holes (hard to photograph) as though the aluminium alloy were thinner than that used for the rear.

So - what have I got?

Different generations of wheel, similar to my old Pennine with its deep section Shamal/ Vento mixamitosis

you're in good company....

Indurain won the '94 TdF with a similar mismatched set of Shamals

I have a pair of Shamals, your rear is exactly the same as mine. My dates from 1995 so yours will be from that era.
The front one looks like the graphics of the Shamal before mine so early 1990s; it could be the first version, I am not sure when they were introduced by Campagnolo.
