Hello Community,
I picked this up yesterday and drove half a day with little notice from the PO to snag it! Posted online for less than 36 hours including speaking with him via text messages. I think from the time he said someone ahead of me didn’t show up to me being out the door was all within a half hour . Now…he was an older fellow, quite nice, but made clear he was not a Serotta fan, but a Klein lover and wanted this Serotta gone. So I made an offer and to my surprise he accepted.
Being that he was a Klein lover and NOT a Serotta lover, he couldn’t recall if the frame was a 95’ or 96’. My offhand novice (read amateur) mental Serotta database indicates a 1995 frame. Due to the rarity of said frame, the internet (reading a few decade old posts and attempting key-word image searches late last night) was unsuccessful in identifying the frame. Of particular peculiarities is the cable routing at the seat clamp. One for the rear derailleur, one for the front derailleur and another for the rear brake cable. Amazing!
Additionally, there is no serial number on the bottom bracket housing or inside either of the rear dropouts. Klein Lover did say that he felt the front fork, CK headset and m950 groupset were maybe original. But…he was the second owner and I am entirely focused on the frame anyhow. The Wildgripper tires are my own as the tires on the bike yesterday were a bit outside my personal preference. Anyhow, ideas?
A few neat things:
The sound the titanium tubing makes when you flick it with your finger. Comparing that to steel and aluminum, the sound is very distinct. The titanium Salsa skewers are nice. The 3TTT bars a a bit narrow for my liking. All in all the bike weighs 10kg. Mahalo!
