Selling parts

Hi all, im new here (obviously).

I recently got back into biking and decided my old bike (16yrs old) want really up to it.

So i have split the bike down and have decided to sell the parts on here/ebay at some point.

So, i would like to know do you guys usually buy things that are mint condition or prefer the parts to be in a good but used state?
I have a few bits and pieces that have a couple of chips/scratches on them.
Would i be best trying to touch them up or sell as they are?

i will however definately repaint the DX brake levers i painted blue/yellow/red over the years :roll:

No, no, no, whatever you do don't try repainting them or touching them up, it'll never match the original finish unless you spend a fortune and you'll not recoup back the cost of the refinishing in the incremental sale price.

Sell it as it is and if the new owner wants to refinish let them. Some people like the patina of used equipment too.

Dont worry, all i have done so far is clean them up in the parts washer at work.

i like to buy mint but can usually only afford bent and battered.

when buying battered i would much rather have it unrestored, that way you know what you are getting. your repainting might not be up to my standard in much the same way as mine may not be up to someone else's. plus patina is cool on most stuff

i would be wary of a 'touched up' part.

what is the seller trying to hide?
what happened to it that was so horrific it needed sorting etc.

have a good gander through the sales section. a lot of stuff that goes through there is worn but good working condition. the odd rusty bolt or honest paint scratch doesn't put off someone who wants a part to do a job.

some folk will be after mint / NOS stuff for the garage queen they are building but the majority have no issues with a looked after but slightly tired looking mech, lever, handlebar or whatever!

agreed do not touch, you've done right by just cleaning and polishing

I would then be clear on what parts you actually have

then look on ebay completed sales and in here at sales completed

If your still unsure take some good pics and identify them clearly and post in here...you normally get replies either instantly or within a few days
