Seized seat post

No one has mentioned hacksawing it out yet....possibly because it's a bit of a pain. Can be done though - especially if you fabricate a tool to hold a blade ridged so you can slit the post lengthways and compress it in on itself to release. Done it myself and within 2hrs I had the post out with no damage to the frame - being careful of course......

Hacksawing and caustic soda are second line approaches once easing has failed.

Plus-Gas is thinner than WD40 and seems to work its way in over time. It's worth spraying it all over the seatpost / tube junction and leaving it overnight, it might just loosen.

If you are out of luck strip the bike to a frame and remove the bottom bracket. Give it a week with regular generous doses of plus gas down the seat tube via the hole in the bottom bracket. Then give it the vice treatment. If you can get it to budge even 30 degrees in rotation then it WILL work free.

Decided to give up on this one in the end. The bike was too big for my daughter anyway so punted it on on eBay. Doubled my money though so all in all I was quite pleased. Yes, I was honest about the seat post in the auction description by the way!

It would have been good forum etiquette to offer it here on the forum, where the members have helped you, prior to the "profiteering" on eBay. It's what the forum is all about - give and take.

I like WD40. The can is a pretty blue and I like the smell.

Glad it's not just me who likes it!
Reminds me of my dad worrying his old rod-braked Raleigh in his garage when I was a kid!

Re:

I'm sorry rjs. I wasn't planning on making a profit. Just wanted to punt it on and get something else. I'm new on here. Didn't realise there was a forum etiquette on these things. Guess I have a lot to learn in this community. Apologies.
