Why does this monstrosity deserve two threads? Could the mods please lock (at least ;) ) one of them?
Ta.
Me poor old eyeballs... :?

That'll be my fault, sorry!

That looks fantastic, a good move for the company and to the guy talking about 'trail centres', who cares what other people think? If it's their bike they're obviously happy with it and that is all that matters.

I mentioned trail centre as I liked the idea of it being an unknown weapon - a stealth alien-tech laser-guided sofa-destroyer

I'm not sure that's the post you meant though...

I thought there were three threads?

I think it is a fantastic bike from a fantastic builder, and if anyone wants to know what is going to be iconic twenty years from now, look no further.

:)

Does Jeff Jones actually build frames? I heard Merlin or someone were building his Ti spaceframes, might not be true though. They do seem a bit over hyped to me but wouldn't mind a go on one just to see!

But for the price he charges you'd like to think the name of the guy on the frame actually built it, he's deffinately not alone in doing this though!

I used to think he built them too and thought it was a bit off with him putting his name on it. Its quite funny but theres a pic of him on his site with a scotchbrite pad polishing a frame, maybe thats enough to put you name on it  but when you do think about it it is his design and its quite unique* at that.

* I'm aware of the black sheep bike too :)

He used to build them all. They were even more expensive then, and the waiting list was immense. And he still didn't make much of a living. His choice was to subcontract the manufacturing or give up completely, which is when Merlin started doing them. Although he still assembled (and tested and packed) all the complete bikes himself. Then Merlin pulled the plug, no-one else in the US would/could take the job on presenting another choice - offshore or nothing. I'm sure the new frames will be spot on - Jeff's a perfectionist, he's not going to let substandard stuff with his name on go out...

What he said... :)

So, do both you have Jones frames? What do they ride like? I have a set of Titec Jeff bars and really like em :D

Ridden one, liked it lots, can't (couldn't) afford one. Hence enthusiasm for cheaper ones :)

The concept and design are the important things - as long as a bike is specified correctly any competent manufacturer can put it together properly.

I don't think Julien McDonald still knits his own stuff in a room out the back and much of Damien Hirst's work is done by other craftsmen, but you still pay for their names. Their bikes would probably be rubbish though. ;)
