Is there a clever way of cleaning this Kalloy post? I assume the only option is wet/dry and polishing the entire length of the post? Is there any way of preserving the “satin” finish?

Not that I've found! Other then being very good with an air brush and at paint matching/ mixing. Even that won't remove the scores.

You could rub it down and respray it in satin silver....or polish it, just dont go too mad with the wheel, otherwise it will end up a size smaller!

That's an anodised surface. any mechanical method will reduce the diameter and if not done carefully, by a significant amount. Probably send it for re anodising? or learn to live with it.

Unfortunately I thought it might be an impossible task.
I’ll keep my eye open for something in keeping to fit my Kilauea.
Thanks for all the replies.

Why ?

Leave the inserted section alone and polish the rest . Did a similar job on a black anodised Kalloy post the other day ,
the finish was faded and worn in places . It now looks like new

Check out the reason for the original problem , usually the poor finish to the inside of the slot at the top of the seat tube
