seat post adaptors ??

hey guys,

do such things even exist ????

i have a 29mm seat post that i was hoping i could use in a frame im building up (just using what i have to hand - you know how it is ) but typically this needs a 31mm post,

is there adaptors available for this sort of thing or do i need to find a different s/post ??

Personally, I'd buy 4 tins of beer, drink them, and then make the shim from the beer can, as it's about the correct width, solving three problems at once.

But I'm fairly cavalier when it comes to things like this, and other people might say "NO! Don't be silly!"

hahahahahaha - sounds like a plan and for my 'sedate' sort of riding i'd imagine it'd be ok

just had a look on ebay and theres 94 of them on there - none of which are the size i need anyway :roll:

Yes they exist but usually only for standard sizes of seatpost like 27.2 and 25.0.

After that it's the beer can shim method. Beer cans are made to phenomenally tight tolerances so it's a good way to do it from an engineering point of view.

how long are they normally ? i have about 7" of post still in the frame when set at roughly the right height

could you not just open out a 27.2 - 29.2mm shim and use that? It'll add 2mm all round bar a small bit

I already know the answer to this (since shims are widely used) but I would have thought 4" of ill-fitting seatpost flapping about below the shim could be an issue. . . :?

i can easily lose the extra unsupported bit - me trusty hacksaw i'will see to that

i'v tried the can shim thing, not too successfull though, i feel a lil bit pizzed after slurping the 4 tins of strongbow tbh and i managed to stabbed myself in the hand that the cut can's had just tried to chop to pieces - im bleeding and i aint even fell off it yet

i'm not going near it again tonight, i think i'll pop down the lbs tomorrow and see if they have a post that fits - safer all round me thinks
