Sealed Cable System on a '97 Kona

Is there any point on putting a sealed gear cable system on a '97 Kona Explosif?

Looking at the cable routing, the rear mech cable is exposed for virtually the entire length of the cable run...so that would be a waste of money...yes?

Funny you should ask - because I am doing just that...

The '97 Explosif frame I bought had a rear disk mount added and the cable stops drilled out but I'm running XT V's so I've bought extra Jagwire outer cable and going the sealed cable route.

Got all the parts, just need to rebuild my Manitou IV's (waiting for some new seals from the States) and I can get on with it in earnest...

What about gears though? With the down tube routing most of the cable is exposed. Wouldn't it be better to use a less sexy cable and some middleburn lube nipple things... (dunno what they are called?!)
