Schrader or Presta ?

All have their benefits. Presta are normally high pressure, with an adapter they aren't much different. If you moan about them bending its not because presta valves are bad its because you don't know how to use them :p
However the clamping on them is an advantage.

AS LONG AS IT IS NOT A WOODS VALVE DON'T COMPLAIN :p !!

check my ride guys tell me what you think ..

presta although the advantage for shraeder is you can top up at any petrol station.....

I stick with presta as they look more prefessional, yer £ 99 Argos and Tesco bikes have shraeder which is good enough reason for me to avoid. :?

my road bikes always have had presta so no need for having 2 different types of pump.

Presta for me, mostly due to the ease of deflation for rapid tyre changes.

And the valve caps look nicer...

There is of course the thing about strength of rim, a big hole drilled in it to accomodate the schraeder valve weakens the rim, particularly so with thin section rims, so with them a Presta valve would be preferable.

But that old British staple the woods valve, how simple can you get, all that thing was, was a thin rubber tube and spit, perfectly serviceable in the field and what that skinny bit of rubber tubing is for in bog standard general purpose puncture outfits. Woods valve's were also very useful for rapid deflation too, and I remember good for letting your pal's tyres down, just unscrew the valve clamping ferrule and away they go.

I'm in two minds. I prefer Presta for looks, deflation, securing to the rim and rim strength perhaps. Schraeder are tougher IMO. Big plus is rolling (pushing!) up to a garage and using the airline if yr pump broke..

As for deflating yr mates tyres? Well that's just setting yourself up for some puncture karma. [/quote]

I have some bikes with Presta, some with Schrader, but ALL are drilled for Schrader. I always carry a Presta tube when I ride, but the last thing I want is to have a double and/or second flat and have three friends offer up Schrader tubes when my rims are drilled for Presta only.

I have a compressor and airline in my garage, I have a compressor and airline in my Land Rover, I have pressure gauges in every vehicle I own. They all work with Schrader valves and mean I only ever use a pump if I get a puncture while I'm out and about.

I use Schwalbe tubes that have a threaded valve and locking nut so the valve can be "locked" to the rim.

I really can't think of a single reason to use presta valves other than it being easier to spell :)

I like Schroedinga valves. They exist in an uncertain state until you bring a pump near them, at which point the probability waveform collapses and they fit whatever kind of pump it is.
