Sb8945 in 753.

Thought I'd pop this here as I've no immediate plans to build it up. Picked this up from a wheeler dealer in leeds via eBay. Advertised as a barron cinelli 653 road bike it had the tell tale signs of being a raleigh sb at first sight. Having never seen a sb in 653 I thought there was a chance it could be 753 so took a chance on it. Stripped it down and fork weighs 633g and frame 2kg with bb and headset in place. So most likely 753r from measurements of the tubing. As it dates to 88-89 I'd like to repaint in team banana colours and use ultegra 6400 with possibly a 10 speed rear wheel (it's 130 spaced) and dura ace dt shifters.

Re:

Cheers I'm really pleased and little paranoid about denting the tubing! It really is thin. Think I'm gonna pack in a box and put it out of harms way til I start the build.

Thanks for that it's the nearest numbered I've seen, can't tell if it has the same bb and it's a band on front derailleur, same rear dropouts and lugs as far as I can tell. Fork crown is different. Shame it's not in original paint. Is it yours? If it is a services des course it's the first I've seen with the vertical dropouts, but with the sb bikes everything was optional.

Looked closer has same bb. No mention of a repaint in the write up either. Interesting.

No, the frame is not mine, I had seen the pictures previously. I wondered with the frame numbers being so close, if there where a lot of similarities. It appears not.

Maybe each SBDU frame was a project unto itself and any similarities with frames built immediately before or after were coincidental.

They were built to order mostly and as I said everything was optional so even two services des course frames could have differences. But you can see similarities with the frames at the same time. They used to stamp the frame with a h number to indicate custom builds but that stopped at some point.
