i really dont think the tubing , if columbus is the problem.they are one of the largest bike tube makers in the world.the problem is lack of care and maintance from the owner.it has been treated badly .so what was he really expecting? :x

If you want a nice frame, you need thin tubing.
Not Columbus' fault!

You could leave a £69.99 Tesco bike in the sea for a year and it still wouldn't have rusted through...

Possibly repairable if your friend is that way inclined.

There is a forum member (Chris?) who bough a P-Series (I think) Ritchey off here (from Scant?) with similar issues - though not as severe.

His local frame builder was able to repair, but I think the rust on his stays were more pin holes than actual holes as appears the case with this one.

It might be worth a visit to a frame builder in any case to see what they make of it.

But, would only be worth it if your friend was likely to look after the frame following repair!

I Waxoil my frames.

Not trying to be a smartarse but It realy is worth doing.

That is repairable and would be worth the cost if it means saving an Ultra.
