A couple more questions for the RockShox gurus herein. I’ve disassembled and cleaned my spare 1998 RS Judy XC 1 1/8 threadless fork. The fork internals were in pretty good condition (unexpectedly so).
The uppers (stanchions) are immaculate – no scoring whatsoever. Same for the bushings. The damper side Judy butter was clean/not discolored and was free of foreign contaminants/grit. The non-damper side had some slight streaks of light grey in the Judy butter on the springs, but was otherwise free of foreign contaminants/grit.
A couple of questions:
1) How can I tell/test if this damper cartridge is working properly? Does its action change when the damper adjuster is turned fully clockwise versus fully counterclockwise?
2) Were there/are there different cartridge dampers that correspond to the different spring weight ranges?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
