RIP Pre-Trek Klein Sea & Sky...

I have at no point suggested that they "are better" than conventional wheels.I have seen lots of anecdotal evidence (this means third party)and no direct evidence on many forums people are generally suckered into beleiving negative things quite easily ;) I have seen photographic evidence of some early road wheels that were snapped at the rim joint but the wheels were improved post these troubles and I have never seen a broken mtb spinergy rev x.If you consider how many pairs of these wheels were sold over a ten year period and how many were "broken" You will see that the majority by a large factor have been fine ;) I could probably pick out more conventional wheel companies that have had design issues and failures ie;mavic etc.but they are not slated like this.I happen to like them and ride mine quite hard, the ride is good and my first set were ridden on locally for about five years and then I sold them on when I stopped riding and they were still perfectly true  The pair I have now are in great condition and also perfectly true even though they are ten years old or more ;) Speak as you find I suppose.

Mavic >> Spinergy.
Although mileage may vary I'd expect any rim to fail within 10 years if ridden hard and regulary especially in the mud, if only becasue the sidewalls only have a finite lifespan.

And generally overpriced toss is defended to the hilt by those who've been suckered into buying it :)

Doesn't bother me what you run on your bike, it's your bike and if you like the look and ride of Spinergy wheels, that's fine. But pretending that they are in any way "better" (beyond the purely subjective aspect of appearance) than a normal spoked wheel is, I'm afraid, just nonsense.

+1

The reality of it is they're plastic tat. I wonder why no one uses mags in BMX anymore....hang on, it's because they're plastic and broke a lot!

how many pairs of these wheels were sold over a ten year period

Compared to spoked wheels, a vanishingly small number.

I could probably pick out more conventional wheel companies that have had design issues and failures ie;mavic etc.but they are not slated like this.

Mavic took a lot of flack for cracking around spoke holes and the like a few years ago.

ridden on locally for about five years and then I sold them on when I stopped riding and they were still perfectly true

That seems obvious. Given the nature of the construction, if they don't explode they'll stay true.

The pair I have now are in great condition and also perfectly true even though they are ten years old or more

How come you've not worn through the rims yet? And what happens when you do?

The construction theory you have about them not exploding is complete tosh as spins are similarly constructed and many of them are no longer true
The rims have not worn through as I use a softer compound brake pad and look after my stuff:roll:
and if you can provide any direct photographic evidence of a mtb spinergy failure then I am willing to listen but your evidence is based on an opinion formed through no direct experience ;)
I have read many posts on many forums about failure scare tactics by american sue you for a dime people, and none of the evidence stacks up to more than hearsay ;) So there

Still plastic wheels which look bad though :D

Also, argumentative child,......If carbon is "plastic tat" Then the defence of this country is often dependant on such "plastic tat" as it has many military uses ;)

I do know carbon has it's uses, being a fisherman I use the plastic all the time and it's great for that but bike wheels I ask you.

Sorry, I'm being far too silly...let's just say I'm not a fan of carbon wheels :D

Grabs coat and leaves

They're nice looking these Kleins aren't they? Like the paint job, not so fond of the bike itself. Just my opinion. I also think it's down to owner preference. If this is how he wants it then go for it. How it performs on the trails is my yardstick :)
