Gorilla tape, BITD used insulation tape, cloth stuff was nasty and prone to slipping back when you had to use inner tubes.

I now run all my retro builds tubeless with great success using the ghetto method.

I hate cloth tape because it soaks up water when you go through streams. Plastic adhesive tape reinforced with fibres so it does not stretch so much. I forget the brand, but any hardware store should have it. You probably won't find the right width, but after you cut it to the right width, it's set and forget. Does not move, split or soak water and it's cheap!

excellent, so going to give the tubeless tape a go

I'm avoiding cutting lengths of tape, been there done that way back when, don't wish to do it again.
