Picked up a Westwood T1800, it runs but like my bikes needs fettling and it seems my almost guaranteed habit of swapping out handlebars on bikes has passed to the Westwood as effing steering wheel had been bodged and came off in my hands!!
It seems it may not be the machine I need but we’ll see

Re:

We ran one of those Westwoods years ago and it wasn't a bad machine, if a little rattly. The space for a petrol can is a great idea and saved me a bit of a walk once or twice! I think we replaced quite a lot of nuts with nyloc versions to stop things falling off... I also seem to remember quite a lot of baler twine holding bits in place!

Re:

Got a Mountfield or something similar in the cellar, unused a few years as I bought a Honda petrol powered walk behind instead.

The ride on has a 8 or 12hp Briggs & Stratton motor so really must get it going again, only needs drivebelt. Replaced it with the Honda as garden quite steep in places and mower wouldn't haul my bulk up the slope

Looked up lawnmower racing last night...

I’m one of 12 that run the BLMRA. Westwood’s are a decent intro into racing, solid, simple to build and can perform well. They are a bit heavy and you can outgrow them in a couple of seasons. The retro wheelhorse mowers are popular and have but more longevity and there are a few other good ones too. It’s all fun though.
