RetroBike MTB Series Rd 1: Long Mynd ~ AFTERMATH

Re:

Now the aches have subsided I've had time to gather my thoughts :D

Rob - (I can say on reflection) Another fantastic day out. Excellent organizing, way marking and route - Thank you

A genuine thank you goes to Ed and Phil(?) who hung back when my legs died - Thank you gents

To those who saw my OTB into commando role moment I have some pretty deep bruising of pride and abdomen to show for it so I hope you enjoyed it ;)

Next year if we can organise less wind that would be great.

So windy ...

See you in Surrey - hopefully my fresh pair of legs will have arrived by then.

If only I'd had a camera running it would have been priceless given it happened on the flat l

Fair play Mark,
Bailing out + Forward Roll (aka a "Gambol" to WeemanMTB & Smithy) + Jump up and remount in the blink of an eye was as impressive as the ground was flat

I still can't fathom how you come off, and having done so .......how chuffing quick you remounted

My DS pedal dug in as I was riding along a rut. It was enough to stop me dead and subsequently throw me over the bars!

I've been trying to work out (from the shapes of the bruises) what I caught myself on as I went over

The recovery was down to ninja like conditioning ......

I didn't realise the bike shop had donated the tyre. I'll send a 'thank you'. Thought a bike shop at the lunch stop could be useful.

Not well up on modern rubber, but from what I saw of it, the good Samaritans donated a decent (new) branded tyre...
and not some Chen-Shing piece of cr&p they had kicking about in the back of the shop that no one would buy!
although to the guy who walked 3 miles even that would have been a gift send from the gods

Re:

Also

Big up for MiniNinjaRob who in helping out, missed his lunch .... and when he did catch up with his burger that had sat on our table for 40 mins it was stone cold.... had I not been a vegi I'd have eaten it for him (before it was cold) as it just looked so forlorn sitting there waiting ;)

Joking aside Mr Ninja, I'm glad your selfless act was recognised at the end of the ride

Yes it was a brand new tyre. WTB Exiwolf. The even dug around in the back for me and found one of those presta/schrader rim adapters so we could isolate any sharp edges in the rim hole from the equation.
It was very embarrassing for Jim (IIRC - bike owner) as he said he had recently used those tyres with no issues and had so many problems on the day!
The new tyre confirmed it was the old skinwall tyre that was at fault - the bead was so polished and slick the tyre had no grip on the rim and was moving around causing the valve to be wrenched away from the tube with the inevitable splitting.

I thought you meant the bike was donated!

Ahh now that's another story

and I have proof of a certain member riding a modern "Hire" bike complete with reflectors in the wheels,
however there was "good iron" paid for the said privilege

Photographic evidence can be produced of those gorgeous wheels.
