retro rc cars...............

Great thread, here's the Tamiya Hotshot I built a couple of years ago. I've always wanted one since Gump & his brother had a Thundershot & something else BITD. (I keep thinking Supershot, but it wasn't, the model name escapes me).

Obviously it's not looking quite so pristine now.

isn't that one of the re released hotshots?

apparently tamiya are doing quite a few rereleases of popular kits
obviously the originals are the ones that are worth the money but at least you can use a rerelease with a no regrets about mullering an original ;)

there is some interest in the vintage stuff on a forum i use - www.oople.com

Yep, tis a re-release, but still retro in my book as it still has the same suspension & set up, so still handles the same as the original. It meets my requirements for the RC car I wanted many moons ago.

Tamiya cars rule! I wanted an Vanquish BITD so bad. An Avante would have been a dream...

I bought a Vanquish a while ago but wasn't really satisfied with it so I sold it off and bought a Top Force. I'd say this is a reissue but can't tell.
It has nice Top Force Evolution carbon fiber chassis components all around. I also bought full ball bearings for it but haven't had time to install them.

The car was complete when I bought it and the body is pretty dull so I'll probably buy a new body for it someday and paint it better.

oh , i've got a chassis for one of those , i'd been building it up for about a year buying 2nd bits from ebay , it's a ta-01 . i'll have to finnish it off now lol

There's been loads of re-releases over the last few years including the Hotshot, Fire Dragon, Hornet, Grasshopper, Lunchbox, Top Force, Thunder Shot, Frog, and most recently the Boomerang. Most had minor mods over the original. The re-releases had a major effect on the value of the originals with only the new built or new in box examples holding their value from a few years back.

I've had a re-release Lunchbox and Hotshot sitting waiting to be built for over a year but just have not had the time. Also got an old Egress, Mantaray, and Terra Scorcher waiting for a resto but not sure that's going to happen any time soon due to retro bike addiction.

Those interested should check out tamiyaclub.com. I was a member for a few years and the chaps on there are every bit as commited to retro r/c as us retrobiker's are to retro bikes! The site has the same ability to drain your cash as this one though so be warned!!

Damn you Brocklanders! Now I really, REALLY want a re-re Boomerang!

I hadn't realised Tamiya had re-released that one.

*shakes fist (& wallet) at Brocklanders*

definitely retro
i wasn't having a pop, just making an observation ;)

i race 8th scale rallycross but about 18 months ago one of the guys who runs an 8th scale size dirt track said he'd put on a one off tenth scale meeting!
well me & my buddy that i race with regularly both had Hotshots BITD so we said we'd buy rerelease Hotshots & race them against the modern stuff
well with boys being boys we looked into it a little deeper realising this possibly wasn't the best idea & bought the latest associated incarnation of the RC10 the B4 which eventually led us into buying 4 wheel drive buggys as well!
actually i'm really glad we did as indoor electric racing is the bollox during the winter :D
we're actually off to Belgium in about 3 weeks to race in a big GP meeting which should be good :D
never raced electric outside before so it will be nice to see just how fast these modern brushless systems can go with room to stretch their legs

unfortunately i actually gave all my Tamiya stuff away about 4 years ago to somebody who was into it
there was a Hotshot a Boomerang a Manta Ray & a bigwig!
strangely i'm not that nostalgic about my old RC stuff although i still have masses of Tenth Technology Predator stuff including 2 of the carbon fibre tub chassis & loads of parts (almost 3 complete cars worth)
they are almost a work of art, just so different to everything else

thinking about it i have loads of good condition electric motors that would be a worthwhile upgrade from the silver can mabuchi the kits come with ;)
pm me if interested ;)
these range from mild 27 turn stockers to 19 turn plus a few modifieds
down to 7 turn i think
be careful though as a std speed controller couldn't handle the current a low turn mod would draw!
the 19's & 27's would be fine
actually i do have spare no limit speed controllers if somebody wanted to build a very fast car

just found a vid of the A final of one of the meetings we have at Newbury during the winter! crossover jumps, low grip drift sections, high grip carpet, big air tabletop! its all there
how quick off the start

Ha ha, neither did I untill I saw one on the modelsport site the other week. If I didn't have so many unused buggies at the mo I'd be very tempted.

If you do get one then I could probably sort you out with some radio gear for the price of postage as I've got loads kicking about. Showtimes stuff sounds even better though.

B*gger this thread, now I'm starting to think about my retro r/c again as well as my retro bikes!!! I just don't have the funds but I am weak!!!

LOL, yeah sorry showtime, I think I took your post the wrong way (stops shouting "It's retro in spirit, damn you!"

Thank you very much brocklanders, that is a very kind & generous offer. I really shouldn't as I've spent far too much recently, but if you've got a transmitter & receiver going cheap I'd be happy to buy them off you.

I wouldn't be surprised to see me posting a newly built Boomerang sometime soon.

Look at it, how can I not buy that?:
